Hidden Scams Part 2
October 4, 2007
I guess when you’re on a role talking about scams some of big boys lay down the law of the land or should I say net. In a post on CashQuests.com we find the interesting tale of a blogger using some unethical tactics to try and make money off of unsuspecting advertisers by stealing the Feedburner rss subscription counter from another site to make it look as though he has more visitors to his site than he actually does.
Why does that matter? For one take my blog here for example. If I where to check the Awstats for the amount of unique visitors to this blog it would show 54. Now that’s not 54 unique a day that’s 54 unique this month so far.
If I were selling reviews for say $25 dollars to review your site the chances are not likely that you would willing to purchase a review from me. But, if I pointed out that I had high alexa rank - meaning traffic to my site and a subscribtion base of 200 to 300 readers (both of them fake statistics pulled from another site) you might be more inclined to spend the money. Probably hoping to at the very least gain a few subscribers to your own feed if the case be that you had a blog.
Do you see where this is going?
I do, but the scammer doesn’t stop there. You’d think that after having been busted for the above he would stop with the antics and try being a little more shall we say “real”. In a post from The Mogul himself, Anthony (The Scammer) tries to discredit the recently launched DealDotCom.com.
Anthony’s site BloggingDosh.com is where you can find out in person what lengths a scammer will go to just to make a few dollars.
